Neuromodulators 101: Let’s Talk Tox!

Neuromodulators 101: Let’s Talk Tox!

With the field of aesthetic medicine and injectables on the rise and new products entering the
market every day, it's hard to know what to expect or even where to begin! Let’s demystify some
of the most popular questions wether you are interested in Xeomin, Botox, Dysport, or Juveau!
“What should I expect at my first Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin appointment?”
At your first appointment you will have the opportunity to receive a full facial consultation prior to
any treatment. This means that we will discuss facial aging, anatomy, and aesthetic goals and
options to provide as much information as possible to help you be an active participant in your
treatment plan formation! You will be able to ask any questions you may have to help put your
mind fully at ease before we get started with your first treatment!
We will review and sign medical history and consents, then take baseline pre treatment photos
to help evaluate your results at your follow up. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and
marked for treatment so it is always best to come with clean skin if possible!
The injection process itself takes a matter of minutes and is relatively painless! Potential side
effects to be aware of are bruising and bleeding so if you are prone to bruising you should avoid
alcohol, aspirin, caffeine and other blood thinners to minimize this risk! Some patients may
experience a mild headache after the treatment begins to set in, but that is easily managed with
Tylenol or Ibuprofen!
“How long until I see the results from my Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin?”
Onset of your treatment varies depending on which neuromodulator we select to best achieve
your aesthetic goals. Botox starts to kick in within 5-7 days with its full effect at 2-3 weeks, while
Dysport and Xeomin tend to kick in slightly faster around 2-3 days with full effects still being
evaluated in clinic at 2-3 weeks as well. This is when your tox will be at its tightest!
“How long will my Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin last?”
Dosage, placement, depth of injection, and reconstitution can all affect duration of your Botox,
Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin treatments. This means that lighter treatments that allow for
more movement will not last as those done to full correction which would provide more longevity
to your tox treatment! While many people expect their Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin
treatments to have a linear progression, it is actually a lot more similar to a slope!
Around weeks 4-6 your tox will begin to soften up making this timeline ideal for treatments
before a big event or wedding! After that it will be a slow gradual return to movement over the
next 6-10 weeks having your expression arriving back to its baseline around 3-4 months post
injection!

If you don’t feel like you are getting the full duration out of your treatment, it is important to take
progress photos and discuss with your provider because it may be time to adjust your treatment
plan dosing or try a different product!
“Will Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin treatments make me look older if I stop
getting it done?”
NO! Absolutely not! While most patients will miss the way their skin looks while their Botox,
Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin treatments are active it does not speed up the process of facial
aging, your skin will just return to the baseline and continue to age naturally!
