Botox® is the most popular neurotoxin injection and the one most patients recognize by name. This botox cosmetic treatment has decades of clinical data behind it, with results that typically last between three to six months.
Onset often begins within three to five days, reaching optimal results around one to two weeks. It tends to work beautifully across a range of treatment areas – from forehead lines and frown lines to crow’s feet – and is also FDA-approved for chronic migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms. Botox injections are not recommended during breastfeeding. For patients who value a proven, predictable option, Botox® remains a trusted choice.
Dysport® offers faster results, typically within 2-3 days after injection, making it a thoughtful option for patients seeking a quicker visible change. Its formulation tends to spread a little more broadly at the treatment area, which can be especially well-suited for smoothing dynamic wrinkles across larger zones like the forehead. Many patients find Dysport® a natural fit when their aesthetic concerns involve broader facial lines rather than very precise, small areas. Results generally last about three to four months, with individual variation.
Xeomin® has a highly purified formulation with fewer proteins – it contains only the core active ingredient without the accessory complexing proteins found in other botulinum toxin type A products.
This cleaner composition means Xeomin® has a lower risk of antibody resistance due to its purity, which may be especially relevant for patients who receive regular neurotoxin treatments over time. Patients may develop antibodies that can reduce the effectiveness of neurotoxin treatments, and Xeomin® is specifically designed to help reduce that possibility.
Onset is generally within a few days, with results lasting around three to four months.
Jeuveau® is a newer neurotoxin approved for cosmetic use, receiving its Food and Drug Administration approval in 2019 specifically for moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows. It offers a focused, modern option for patients whose primary concern is smoothing those vertical lines that can make you look tired or tense.
Effects typically begin within days and peak around one to two weeks. For patients exploring natural looking results in a cost effective, purpose-built formulation, Jeuveau® is worth discussing during your consultation.

Common side effects include temporary bruising and mild swelling, and possible side effects of neurotoxin injections include pain, swelling, and temporary drooping eyelids. It is worth noting that XEOMIN can cause life-threatening allergic reactions, and serious side effects may occur hours to weeks after XEOMIN treatment – your provider will discuss this with you in detail.
Patients should avoid blood thinners before botulinum toxin injections. Neurotoxin products are FDA-approved and include Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®, and newer options like Daxxify® – which may last up to 6-9 months – are also part of the evolving landscape your provider can discuss with you.
